To a young woman faced with a problem pregnancy there are
often only two choices: have an abortion or enter the welfare cycle. Mom's House® was
founded in September 1983 to provide a real alternative to these options of despair. The
first Mom's House® was founded in Johnstown, Pennsylvania by Peg Luksik. Initial support
came from Citizens Concerned for Human Life, the local pro-life organization. It is
situated in a former convent donated by the Altoona-Johnstown diocese. Mom's House
offers single parents the chance to have their babies and continue their education. A
licensed day-care center, Mom's House® gives free, child care to infants and toddlers so
parents can return to school.
The program at Mom's House® is geared to give parents the greatest opportunity
possible to succeed. Parents are tutored in necessary subject areas and helped with
homework. Counseling in life skills, parenting techniques, nutrition and self-esteem are
integral parts of the program. Parents are strongly encouraged to continue their education
past high school to a level where they are fully employable thus breaking the
welfare-dependency cycle.
Parents enrolling in the Mom's House® program agree, through written contract, to
attend school regularly, maintain passing grades, and work three hours at the center each
week. Work assignments are geared to educational goals whenever possible, making Mom's
House® a job training center for those parents.
Mom's House® combines a professional staff and qualified volunteers to operate its
program. The atmosphere of caring created by these dedicated personnel is a major factor
in the Mom's House® success rate.
The first Mom's House® has proven to be an international model. Mom's House® received
a registered service mark from the United States Patent Office in order to protect the use
of its name.
Mom's Houses are now open in locations in Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio and Delaware. |

Again He said, "What shall we say the kingdom of God is
like, or what parable shall we use to describe it? It is like a mustard seed, which is the
smallest seed you plant in the ground. Yet when planted, it grows and becomes the largest
of all garden plants, with such big branches that the birds of the air can perch in its
shade." Mark 4:30-32 (NIV) GOD'S LOVE IS THE FOUNDATION OF MOM'S HOUSE.
SEEDS OF LOVE GROW INTO IRRESISTIBLE FORCES.
EVERY PERSON BORN AND PRE-BORN HAS AN EQUAL RIGHT TO BE TREATED WITH RESPECT AND
DIGNITY AND LOVE.
Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be
condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. Give, and it will be given to you. A good
measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For
the measure you use, it will be measured to you."
Luke 6:37-38 (NIV) EVERY MOTHER, REGARDLESS OF HER PAST, DESERVES TO BE LOVED FOR WHO
SHE IS AND CAN BECOME.
EVERY MOTHER, REGARDLESS OF HER SITUATION, DESERVES THE OPPORTUNITY TO COMPLETE HER
EDUCATION.
A CHOICE FOR LIFE SHOULD NOT BE A CHOICE FOR POVERTY.
At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, "Who is the greatest in the
kingdom of heaven?" He called a little child and had him stand among them. And He
said, "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you
will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child
is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes a little child like this in
my name welcomes me."
Matthew 18:2-5 (NIV) Then the little children were brought to Jesus for Him to place
His hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples rebuked those who brought them.
Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the
kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." When he placed His hands on them, He
went on from there.
Matthew 19:13-15(NIV) EVERY CHILD IS A UNIQUE EXPRESSION OF GOD'S LOVE.
EVERY CHILD HAS THE RIGHT TO BE SURROUNDED BY LOVE AND ACCEPTANCE.
MOTHERS HAVE THE RIGHT TO RAISE THEIR CHILDREN IN CONDITIONS OF DIGNITY AND FINANCIAL
INDEPENDENCE. |
